Finally it’s done, I’m out. I can finally leave the dilemma that has been with me for the last 1.5 years behind me.
I can hardly describe in words how happy I am that this part of my life is over. And because something new will start again soon, I allow myself a little break in between.
What began 20 years ago with Manu in Kuala Lumpur will continue. Long-distance travel as often as possible. On to Southeast Asia, on to Thailand! Bargain is booked.
We meet in Bangkok and it struck us, how nice is it if you can fly with your best friend again on vacation. (ok it’s only been 2 years, but it feels like an eternity)
Two weeks is not much for the long journey you have to cover for the journey. But I do not want to complain, when I recently returned from South Africa. We decide for a comfortable time on South Thailand’s islands. For only 32.- € we fly from Bangkok to Trang to arrive by taxi and boat on the same day on the island Koh Ngai . There are only a few accommodations on the approximately 5 km² small island, 15 km from the mainland of Trang province and Pak Meng Pier. We have a great cabin on the beach at Koh Hai Seafood Bungalows, The complex consists of only 9 simple, built in 2008 stone bungalows, which are covered with palm lichen. The associated restaurant offers many delicacies. For us the best option on the whole beach. Unfortunately, the sea is pretty far out at low tide, but paradisiacally beautiful at high tide. At 9pm it will be difficult to order food, but a beer or gin and tonic will still be there before the lights go out. A trail at the southern tip of the beach leads across the island to another beautiful beach, where you can also sip fresh coconuts. To relax Kho Ngai is really great. What surprised me after a few years Thailand abscess, the beer costs at least 2.00 – 2.70 €, so I really would not have expected.
But that Thailand has become more expensive in general, I have in the coming days still often find. Our next stop is on the island of Koh Mook . The owner himself gave us the tip a few days ago and we followed his advice to stay with him in the Village. http://www.kohmook-cocolodge.com . Our bamboo bungalow is exactly what you would expect from Thailand. Well, he lies in a garden, but we like the cabin and the outdoor bath. The owner is unique and all the staff extremely friendly, the food and the coconut cakes are delicious.
Above all, Koh Mook offers the Emerald Cave : An approximately 80m long limestone tunnel leads on waterline through an unassuming slit from the sea through the rock, at the end of which you come to a rocky gorge with a beautiful lagoon. Located on the western tip of Ko Mook, the gorgeous , white beach Hao Laem encloses the Resort Sivalai on two sides. The beach is powdery and white. At low tide you will find thousands of starfish. I’ve never experienced that before. Across the headland is the resort Sivalai http://komooksivalai.com, which offers beautiful, but also very expensive bungalows on the beach. Unfortunately, the associated restaurant and bar is not very inviting, but this did not detract from a cocktail and beer, but it made us decide not to pay so much for the bungalows.
After a week we leave the Andaman Sea and travel towards the Gulf of Thailand. By boat, minibus, taxi, boat and pick up we cross southern Thailand to arrive on the same day on Koh Phangan .
Our decision is on the Had Yao beachlike. From the hustle and bustle of Had Rin and yet not so lonely. We live on the beach in a complex that I lived in for the last time 10 years ago. Still as great as it used to be, it can be really nice to hang out here. http://ibizabungalow.resort.kohphanganbungalows.de/ Certainly a perfect place to spend the winter. If I did not start a new job in a few days, but would go into early retirement, then the bungalow in the beautiful garden overlooking the sea would be the suitable domicile for it. Unfortunately, the same has been confirmed here on the beach, as on the other two islands: In the evening it is quiet and we make the lights on the beach with the last Gin Tonic. But alright, I’m here to relax and not to celebrate (though there’s nothing wrong with a chill-out beach session;Chaloklum Bay . A small paradise with powdered sugar sand and a relaxed restaurant under the palm trees and funny trees. There is only one small thing that can not be completely ignored. Directly behind is a resort that mainly hosts Russians. The Nisch-Nasch gibbering just annoys me, I can not deny that and I would be afraid to book a room here. But who comes into the corner, please visit this small beach section, really charming!
One evening we are drawn to Haad Rin . To the beach where Manu and I had spent many weeks. However, at a time when Bucket and Flateratesaufen were still part of the Ballermann. Meanwhile, Koh Phangan is best known for the Fullmoon, Halfmoon, Blackmoon, Jungle, and ‘No matter the reason,’ parties. Thousands of people from all over the world are besieging the small town and stinging the beach with loud BumBum Techno, leaving an empty space a few days later. Gone is the time with chilled sound on the beach on bamboo mats and cool dropouts. We are at Had Rin one evening when the crowds have left and the little streets are almost empty. Everything is very funny, if you all this for years totally cool.
Since my arrival in the south of Thailand I have been cold every night. Yes, that’s right: cold! No one could tell me why, it’s unusual for this time of year. Every night I had something long, because the wind always blew and it freezes me in a tropical country. So also on the evening at Had Rin, a comfortable chilling on the beach was canceled. But a drink at the last Reaggae Bar has to be. Unfortunately, then Claudia falls my camera with an open lens directly into the sand, that’s it then with taking pictures for the holidays and forever.
Anyway, the holiday is coming to an end and we have enough impressions on the camera, as well as collected in our heads. My feet stayed healthy this time, we did not get sick and nothing was stolen. We once again had a relaxing time on Thailand’s islands with a lot of singha, gin and tonic and the well-known treats such as fish, curries, shakes and fresh coconuts. I was a little surprised how expensive the drinks, the food and the transport got. But again I have to say that Asia is still worth a visit. The people are still very friendly, the service is great. Travel for beginners and for old backpackers as we are now. No matter, there are so many moments that are still the same for Manu and me as they were then, when we first arrived at the other end of the world with a backpack 20 years ago and were able to experience so many new things. I am still grateful today that we started with it and from then on we experienced so many wonderful journeys together.
Thank you Manu, that you were so spontaneous and shared ‘the time in between’ with me and especially for your support 😉 It has been so good to chat with you for hours, because now I feel strongly what to start something new!
So now it’s time for a break. Now it’s time to save and work 🙂 But look back in, it can not take quite as long, until it starts again …
Until then a few more impressions:
